The Third Watch is a television series that initially ran on the NBC Television Network. It ran for a total of 6 seasons and 132 episodes, and was one of the top-ranking television series during its run. It is unique because it has never been fully released on DVD for home viewing, and this is why our third watch complete dvd set boxed is perfect, as it contains all episodes from all seasons of this amazing television series.
Third Watch revolved around the adventures of firefighters, paramedics and police officers in a fictitious neighborhood in Queens, New York. In each episode, the cast of Third Watch would be shown solving issues such as burning houses, exploding cars, and similar instances. The series was not without its melodramatic moments, however, making Third Watch a perfect blend of action, adventure, drama and even romance at times. For instance, in the very first season, 2 of the characters (Morales and Doc) get into a romantic relationship.
The show was also unique for being shown during the September 11 terrorist attacks on the New York City twin towers, which no doubt also boosted its popularity during the time. The first episode of the third season of Third Watch was shown in the aftermath of the attack, and featured real-life firefighters and policemen who responded to the actual September 11 attacks.
Third Watch had an ensemble cast that rotated its stars among the episodes. Among the notable participants are Jason Wiles, Coby Bell and Skip Sudduth as the New York Police Department officers, and Bobby Cannavale, Kim Raver, and Michael Beach as Fire Department of New York paramedics. Third Watch also had several guest appearances from notable personalities such as Rosie O'Donnell, Wyclef Jean, Mia Farrow and Jason Sehorn. Third Watch's popularity has also led to its syndication on television networks around the world.
Some of the more notable Third Watch episodes were September Tenth, Unleashed, Last Call & Goodbye To Camelot. Goodbye to Camelot was the last episode of Third Watch, and at the time of its showing it was not known that Third Watch was going to be cancelled. Its cancellation sparked a furore among the many Third Watch fans, and it was also listed in the mainstream media as being one of the shows that was cancelled before its time. Camelot refers to the confluence of streets where the fictitious Third Watch fire station was located (Arthur Street and King Blvd), a clever play on words.
The original idea for Third Watch was to create a show about paramedics, but creator John Wells felt that there may have been insufficient material to create a show based solely on this. He then collaborated with Ed Bernero, tapping on the latter's experience as a former Chicago policeman, and co-created Third Watch - a series about paramedics and policemen, and their exploits.
Third Watch's first episode was broadcast on the 23rd of September 1999, and ran for a total of 132 episodes until the 6th of May 2005. Third Watch was also the recipient of the prestigious Peabody award for the aforementioned episode, which had interviews of real-life FDNY and NYPD officers involved in the actual September 11 terror attacks. With its realism and attention to detail, and the high production values evident through the 6 seasons, Third Watch is a classic of American mainstream television, and it was a shame that it was not extended past its short stay on primetime television. Today, however, you can relive the exploits and adventures of Kitson, Walsh, Boscorelli, Davis, Caffey and gang with our third watch complete dvd set boxed - now containing all 6 seasons and 132 episodes of this hit television series.
