Third Watch Show: Action Packed Thrill Ride
Third Watch is the most action packed television show of the new millennium. It offers non-stop action punctuated with real human drama. Personally, I just can't get enough of Third Watch. The show should be brought back for a 7th season, or at least made into a TV movie. Any revival of this wonderful program must come from the existing fan base if it is too truly succeed. Third Watch Show features firefighters, paramedics, and police officers battling the evils of everyday New York life, while trying to resolve deep internal personal problems. Before Third Watch, I thought that drama had no place on an action television show. It had always seemed that the dramatic element of a television show detracted from the action theme. Third watch integrates the elements of action and drama so well that I hardly noticed the transition from one to the other. Towering infernos, hundred car pileups, and inner city drug rings are all common themes on Third Watch. The shows unique capacity to portray epic disaster from a single person's perspective strikes an empathetic note in the audience. The vicarious thrill of a criminal being arrested is not the most amazing thing about Third Watch. The truly remarkable element of the show is its capacity to make the police officer and the criminal seem truly human. There are no programs on television today that can compare to Third Watch. It's unique and colorful way of presenting entertainment is not something that can be easily replicated. Many shows have tried to present gritty real life drama, but all have failed. There is simply no way that Jack Bower could ever be an action character with the same clear purity that Jimmy Doherty had. Third Watch ended in its 6th season, after a substantial decrease in fan base and advertising revenue. The show ended too soon, and many key story elements were never satisfactorily resolved. Is the value of a television show just the money it can make? I think Third Watch was a brilliant social commentary and should return long enough to finish the story.
