Third Watch Cast and Starting
Firefighters were not part of the original plan of Third Watch. When they presented the idea of third watch to the network executives, it was excluding the concept or the idea of "Firefighters". Not even the paramedics were a part of the plan from the original script of third Watch. You will find some great interesting facts about Third Watch. By the end of the 6th season of third watch, it had become a completely different serial then it was when it originally started. Third Watch was originally a police drama serial (Cop Drama). The original pilot was scripted to compete with the then successfully running show "The Shield". NBC studio producers rejected the concept of Third watch initially saying that there were too many Cop shows that were running on the air. John Wells kept the idea of Third Watch in his head for a long time. He kept developing the story in his head with the passage of time. After waiting two years, John Wells presented the idea of Third Watch again to the NBC executives but this time it wasn't just a cop drama. It was a realistic more drama based cop - paramedics and firefighter drama serial. The show went on to becoming one of the best shows ever. Third Watch Cast was started to assemble for the show in the start of 1999 when a very young and good looking actor gave auditions for the part of Maurice Boscorelli. He was not selected for Maurice Boscorelli's part but he impressed the producers of the drama so much that they specially developed a new character for him named Jimmy Doherty who was a Firefighter. This young guys name was Eddie Cibrian. He had lost the role of Maurice Boscorelli to Jason Wiles. They changed the script a bit and Third Watch was ready and all set to go. They delayed the timeslot of the first episode of Third Watch because it had some graphic content and harsh language. NBC wanted to protect their younger generation. There were many different actors that were a part if Third Watch. The problem was the many actors kept leaving the show which made it hard for the writers. Regardless of its starting point, Third Watch would be shaped by fate to become the best action/drama television show of our age.
